Afghanistan beat Zimbabwe by five runs in a thrilling Twenty20 International (T20I) clash on Friday (January 8) to follow their triumph in the one-day series.Chasing 188 to win, Zimbabwe fell just short when Luke Jongwe, needing a six to win, was dismissed off the last ball of the match. It was a controversial finish, however, after Dawlat Zadran, Afghanistan seamer, was allowed to keep bowling the final over despite having sent down two waist-high full tosses.Jongwe was caught by Gulbadin Naib out in the deep to leave Zimbabwe on 182-7 in their 20 overs. Malcolm Waller was the not out batsman on 49 with two sixes and two boundaries off 37 balls. Zadran finished with figures of 3 for 32 in his four overs.Opting to bat first, Afghanistan posted 187 for 7 in their 20 overs. Usman Ghani top-scored with 42 off 38 balls, an essay including a six and five boundaries while man-of-the-match Naib made 37 and Mohammad Shahzad, 33. Veteran off-spinner Graeme Cremer returned impressive figures of 3-17.

West Indies' Twenty20 captain Darren Sammy has not been contracted by the WICB for 2015-2016, along with all rounder Andre Russell and spinner Sulieman Benn. Chris Gayle, who had previously turned down West Indies contracts more than once, including last year, is not on the list of centrally contracted players which was increased from 12 to 15. Sunil Narine, who had also turned down a contract last year and is currently suspended from bowling in internationals due to an illegal action, also does not feature on the list.The other two to miss out from the list issued for 2014-15 are Shivnarine Chanderpaul and the out-of-favor Dwayne Bravo.

Brisbane Heat's slim chances of making the semi-finals vanished in front of a record Gabba crowd as they lost by eight wickets to a near-perfect Adelaide Strikers on Friday (January 8). Strikers moved to the table by making short work of their target of 176, with each of their top three contributing breezy half centuries.Man of the match Mahela Jayawardena's silky strokes and deft touches were on display as he raced on to 20 from eight balls with a couple of sixes and a four in the second over. He pulled a muscle shortly after that early blitz and received some treatment, but that hardly slowed him down. The Sri Lankan brought up his second successive half-century in the 10th over before he was trapped in front of the stumps by Samuel Badree.Travis Head, who walked out next, raced to a 25-ball 50 before getting out in the 17th over. The in-form left-hander smashed four sixes and a four in his whirlwind knock. Opener Tim Ludeman remained unbeaten until the end on 57 with five boundaries.

A non-bailable warrant has been issued against Mahendra Singh Dhoni in a local court in Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh, on Friday (January 8), for a morphed picture of India's limited-overs' captain that appeared on the cover of a magazine in April 2013.The picture which depicted Dhoni as a Hindu deity, headlined 'God of big deals', shows him endorsing a variety of products, including a shoe.Local Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Shyam Sunder filed the petition after he found the portrayal of Dhoni as the deity hurtful to Hindu sentiments."I had gone to court as the picture hurt Hindu sentiments," Sunder told TV channels in Anantapur.The court has asked the Indian skipper to appear for hearing before February 25, 2016.

Australia's upcoming One-Day Internationals (ODI) campaign against India should be as feisty as ever, coach Darren Lehmann said on Friday (January 8), adding the dynamic would be a good challenge for his young squad.Asked about the mood of the five-match ODI series, which gets under way at Perth's WACA ground on Tuesday, Lehmann said he expected it would be "the same" as previous ones.They (India) are playing an aggressive brand of cricket as well so I don't see that changing over the next five games," he told reporters in Perth."India play the same way, so it's going to be an exciting series."Matches in the past have seen tempers flare, with umpires intervening in Adelaide in 2014 as players exchanged terse words and pointed fingers at each other.The Perth game will be the first time top-ranked Australia have faced India since beating them in the semi-final of the ICC Cricket World Cup in Sydney last March.Lehmann said he was sure his 13-man squad - including uncapped fast bowlers Scott Boland and Joel Paris - would handle the situation well given their experience with big crowds and the pressures of domestic T20 cricket."So they'll be used to that now, which is a good thing for us," he said.

Ian Chappell, the former Australian captain, weighed in on the Chris Gayle controversy, calling on Cricket Australia to take a zero-tolerance position against what he deemed as "totally inappropriate" behavior. The West Indian opener drew criticism from various quarters for asking Mel McLaughlin, a senior Big Bash League reporter, out for a drink during an on-field interview. Chappell said he wouldn't be surprised if Australia's cricket board suspended Gayle from participating in any form of organised cricket in the country. "I wouldn't have a problem if Cricket Australia said to the clubs, 'he's never to be contracted again in this country'," he told reporters on Friday (January 8).

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) rallied behind Yasir Shah and said that it will appeal against his provisional suspension for an anti-doping code violation.The board claimed that Yasir had taken his wife's blood pressure medicines by mistake.Shah was provisionally suspended on December 27 by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for breaching its anti-doping code in a random test conducted in UAE in November 2015."Yasir's wife coincidentally is a blood pressure patient and he mistakenly used her tablet without knowing that it contained a banned substance," PCB chairman Shahryar Khan was quoted as saying by cricket.com.au."We are confident that he didn't do it intentionally. He is a very naive guy and took that medicine out of ignorance. Yasir's family has high blood pressure problem and his uncles have suffered strokes and heart attacks due to it. He gets similar fears so whenever he suffers from high blood pressure he takes some tablets," he added.
